AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #59 - Fisk's Scheme Revealed?

This story was written by Nick Spencer, with pencils by Marcelo Ferreira. It is just so nice to see old Willy Fisk going back to his roots, once again becoming a thorn in the side of Spider-Man, taking a little break from harassing poor Daredevil for a little while. By that statement, I have kind of made it sound as though Fisk hasn’t appeared at all throughout this run, when in fact he has actually been featured quite a bit, mostly in background roles, doing what he does best, and manipulating events from behind the scenes, while still occasionally poking his nose in, palling it up with Spider-Man, all while still having a malicious little grin on his chubby little face. When it comes to my grading sheet, I have three different sections for the writing of a story, with the final one being an average between the prior two categories (Story, Character), which often tends to get rounded up or down depending on whether it fell on an odd number or not. For the most part, I have alwa...

AVENGERS #42 - Thor Has Another Retcon

This story is written by Jason Aaron, with pencils by Luca Maresca. I seriously do not know what is possessing me to continue with this story arc, it simply just isn’t particularly good. If I had to give a reason, I would have to see that, while the story is awful, it is still somewhat interesting in a “villagers staring at the freaks” kind of way, as I still would kind of like to know how it plays out. Strangely though, we are now three chapters in, and this happens to actually have been the best one out of the bunch so far, so maybe we are soon going to be in for a bit of an upturn in fortunes for the titles, although I do highly doubt it with Aaron’s track record on the title thus far. This issue continued a bit of a theme that has been present within all of the instalments thus far, which is that the battles featuring lengthy pieces of dialogue are actually the highlights of the issue. None of the exposition that Jason Aaron has featured outside of these fights is really a...

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #58

Thi s story is written by Nick Spencer, with pencils from Marcelo Ferreira.   Cover by Mark Bagley So much for Kindred being put in the rear-view mirror then, as it seems we are not allowed to continue on without him making more appearances. I totally understand that he is a pretty big threat to Spider-Man, and those around him, meaning that he cannot exactly be ignored for too long, but Nick Spencer could have at least given us a little bit of a break from that entire situation for just a small while. Due to this, I can’t even really say that the new arc with Mister Negative and Martin Li is the main focus of the issue, because most of it took place in a flashback, that prominently featured Peter taking to Liz Allan about the stuff with Harry, with just a little bit of detail centred around what is going on. I guess I may as well begin by addressing and expanding upon that conversation between Peter and Liz, because it was both interesting and utterly infuriating. Basically, ...
