Marvel Generations: The Phoenix Review

The Marvel Generations series continued this week, with the release of The Phoenix. This issue centres around the time displaced version of Jean Grey meeting, and working alongside, a past version of herself, when she was the host for the Phoenix Force.

Like The Strongest, the issue serves to teach the character some kind of lesson that could possibly help them in the future, with this teaching Jean more about the Phoenix entity itself.

Although I did enjoy the issue, I do feel that they probably should have used a different set of characters, as the two Jean's are far too similar in my opinion, maybe they could have used other legacy characters, rather than essentially the exact same person.

I give this issue a 6/10.

Amazing Spider-Man #794 Thoughts

Scorpio returns! (Wait ... nobody cheered.) A year (of Marvel Time) has passed since Spidey and the gang imprisoned Scorpio in the Zodiac Dimension, and it was time for him to wreck havoc once agqin (or fail miserably .... your choice). My opinion of this issue is that, as is often the case, nothing of consequence happens until the very end. This particular twist is both interesting and extremely terrifying, as out old buddy Norman Osborn got his filthy mits on the Carnage symbiote. My question is: where is Cletus Kassidy ... I don't remember him losing the symbiote in the last Carnage mini series. I think this storyline will be running up until Dan Slott's departure from the title in #800, and will no doubt destroy Peter Parker's life for what will probably be the millionth time in his publication history. This issue gets a 6/10 for me, as it was pretty boring.

X-CORP #1 - A Slow-Paced, But Serviceable Beginning

 This story is written by: Tini Howard, with visuals from: Alberto Foche & Sunny Gho. From what I can tell at least, this is a series that has been a long time in the making, dating back to the original announcement of this reboot all the way back in 2019. Back then, it was more a case of teasing that something like this would be coming, rather than actually being a part of that initial slate of titles, but as soon as the Reign of X was announced, this came along with it. To say that the books that have come after that initial wave have been varying in quality would really be an understatement, as so very many of them are really poor in my opinion, and it is a surprise that the ones that are actually considered the good ones in this whole line are the ones that are getting cancelled (aside from Cable, that deserves the axe). KING IN BLACK #4 - The God of Light

Written by Donny Cates, with art by Ryan Stegman   In the introduction for the review of the previous instalment for this event, I stated that I hadn’t been sure as to whether I had liked it or not. Never fear, this time around it is a much more definitive answer, with that being a resounding “God no!”, as this was likely the weakest instalment of the whole thing so far, and considering that this is the penultimate chapter, that is not a good sign at all. That being said, when looking through each of my reviews for this event, it is quite clear that the quality of the book has declined with every subsequent release, so I guess it is not really too much of a surprise that this one was not at all great.
