An Introduction to My Content.

As a comic book fan for the majority of my 18 years of life, I have struggled to find a way to express my opinions through the spoken word. Some people that I meet are not exactly what you would call 'into comics', and therefore switch off once I start discussing this topic. Through this blog, I am hoping to be able to voice my opinions on not only the latest books that are being released, but also some of my favourite classic issues from the Golden to Bronze ages, from the works of Marvel legends such as Stan  Lee, Steve Ditko, and Jack Kirby to the earliest days of the comic book medium and the advent of the super hero in the 1930s with the early DC/National comics featuring a gun toting Batman from Bill Finger and Bob Kane. 
I will be posting here as often as I can, with the hope of being able to keep up with the current runs of many of the titles that I am currently reading. And also if any progress is made, I shall give updates on the comics that I am currently writing in my spare time. If I find it to be appropriate, I will also upload an accompanying video for each post to Youtube, and will provide a link to it, so that you may view it at your own leisure.

      Don't you worry, this is something that I am actually passionate about. I'm going to try to get lots of posts written and scheduled so that I can stay on top of things.

Review of Astonishing X-Men #1 - The Return of a Favourite (19/07/2017)

The cover The final 'new' X-book has finally been released, and it was alright. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the book itself, written by Charles Soule, I have to admit that I did spend the majority of my reading time pondering whether this is set before or after the Secret Empire event that is currently taking place across most of the other Marvel books. The first issue revolves around attacks on various psychics and telepaths, leading to Psylocke being attacked, and hell being reigned upon the city of London. This prompts a new group of mutants to jump into action and save her; Gambit, Fantomex (just why though?),  Bishop, Angel/Archangel, Beast, Rogue, and Logan. Charles Xavier in chains After rescuing Psylocke, she lets the 'team' know that the Shadow King orchestrated all of this from the astral plane, so they all agree to go there (with Angel staying behind to protect Psylocke.) SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW #1

  This story is written by: Tom King, with visuals from: Bilquis Evely and Matheus Lopes. After being burned by the latter portion of his Batman run and the cluster that was Heroes in Crisis, I have pretty much made a point of avoiding everything to do with Tom King, no matter how much acclaim any one series seems to be getting at the time. I just could not bring myself to go through any potential disappointment from him once again, in much the same way that I have struggled with certain Joshua Williamson works, and even Hickman’s X-Men run. However, I simply just could not pass up the opportunity to pick up this title, to see what King could do with the iconic Supergirl character, with hopes that it would be more Vision than Batman, and the fact that it is only an eight issue series doesn’t hurt too much either to be honest. FANTASTIC FOUR: LIFE STORY #1

  This story is written by: Mark Russell, with visuals from: Sean Izaakse and Nolan Woodard.   One of the most difficult things to do for anything in media is to reuse a concept that has proven incredibly popular in the past, and make it as good as it was the first time around. We have seen it for years with movie reboots or television revivals, where you simply just do not get that same magic the second (or third and fourth) time around, with it then coming across as a shameless cash grab made by people who don’t care, or an embarrassment to the legacy of the original (hello Fantastic Four 2015). Of course, this is not just limited to film and television, as our beloved comic books have been guilty of more than their fair share of this over the years.
